Napier Theatre

VIEW PROJECT

Introduction:

Napier Theatre is Drumheller's locally owned and independent movie theatre. The vintage Napier Theatre building was rebuilt in 1952 and opened its doors to the eager public in 1953, after an earlier theatre burned down in 1951. It was renovated in 1996, and again in 2005. With the recent change in ownership of the Napier, a website redesigned was requested and delivered.

What they want & the solution:

  • The owners want the Napier Theatre website to have a retro Hollywood glamour feel. They asked that their content be easy to read, due to a large percentage of their customer base being tourists who often theatre information online. Napier Theatre also requested that the color scheme of the design be red, gold, and black to continue with the Hollywood theme.
  • Napier Theatre needed a calendar function. On this page, the customer can view all the scheduled movies for the whole month. At first, we made this page using native Webflow elements and interactions. Later, we used a Elfsight Calendar widget for accessibility when updating the weekly movies.

How it was build:

The redesigned website of Napier Theatre was originally a 1-page website. With the updates, the Napier Theatre website currently has 4 pages.
  • Home page: The hero section has the title, description, trailer, rating, date, and time duration at the Now Showing and Next Attraction locations. It also has a fullwidth background image of the movie.

The 2nd section of the home page is for the needed details of the business such as location, schedule, and price per ticket. It also features a section for the featured events: Movies for Mommies, Closed Caption Wednesday, and other special community movie events.

The 3rd section of the home page has a full width background Napier Theatre image with a brief introduction of the theatre.

The 4th section is the Now Showing and Next Attraction, which uses the movie poster as the image instead of a full width background.
  • Venue Rental's and Parties page: The page was a venue Information page with the image of a lobby. Now, the page also has information for movie party package and video game parties.
  • Movies Calendar page: The calendar page was built manually using the slider element.
  • Upcoming Events page: This page has more details of future events at the Napier Theatre.

Result:

The redesign of the Napier Theatre now has a retro-modern themed website using gold and green for the headings, black or white for the paragraphs, and shades of red for the buttons, icons, and other elements. We used high resolution images for the full-width background to make it look more "Hollywood". As for the calendar page, we made it as user-friendly as possible. We also added some pop-ups when clicking the item to view the details of each movie. We used other tools like Elfsight for creating a schedule list section, so it is easy to update. Although we manually built the calendar page, we made it as user-friendly as possible and delivered what was requested. All in all, the owner liked the redesigned website of Napier Theatre and continues to love it every time we make changes or updates to the website. Another satisfied customer!

Conclusion:

We learned how to blend the retro Gold, Red and Green color and contrast it by using Black and White background. We designed the layout of the website with simplicity for the customers so they can read the content easily and by using high-resolution images make it look and feel like a Hollywood website. We also learned how to use other tools like Elfsight for creating schedule list sections so it's easy to update, and although we manually built the Calendar page, we made it user-friendly as much as possible and managed to deliver what the owners wanted.

All in all, the owner liked the redesigned website of Napier Theatre and continues to love it every time we make changes or updates to the website.
